UK ONLINE CENTRES LAUNCHES GET ONLINE DAY

Campaign aims to get 12,000 Brits using the Internet

People across the country will be going online for the first time today as part of Get online day 2008. 500 UK online centres across the country will be aiming to help 12,000 people enjoy a first taste of the internet.

Get online day aims to target the 27% UK adults who have never been online and highlight to them all the benefits the Internet can provide. Almost a sixth (14%) of Brits who aren’t online yet say key barriers such as expense or not knowing where to go puts them off trying out the Internet. However, at the 6,000 UK online centres across the country people are offered free or low cost Internet access and free advice on how to get started – all they need to do is call 0800 77 1234 to find their nearest centre.

Last year, more than 10,000 people across England used Get online day as their excuse to give the internet a go, and 98% said they’d had a good time and wanted to keep on using it in the future.

Helen Milner, Managing Director of UK online centres says: “The entire network of centres is really excited about Get online day. It will help us show people who have never used the internet that it is really easy and convenient – and not something to be worried about. It could help you save time money and hassle, and it’s fun!

“Get online day is for everyone, so whether you’re 18 or 80 why not come along? Our centres can give you the tips you need to get started. We’ve already helped loads of people get to grips with computers and the internet, and we can’t wait to see even more people give it a go on the 24th of October and beyond.”
