UK online centres launch Awards

28 January 2008

Thousands of UK online centres, the people that work in them and the millions of people that visit them are being encouraged to celebrate their achievements, and enter the UK online centres Awards 2008.

The Awards will celebrate the success of people who have used UK online centres to get to grips with technology and make changes to their lives, and recognise and reward the hard work of the centres and staff supporting them.

People are being encouraged to nominate their UK online centre, their family and friends, colleagues, visitors, centre managers, tutors or volunteers for one of five Awards:

UK online centres users:
    1. Outstanding Achievement Award
    2. Inspirational Story Award

UK online centres and staff:
    3. Best Centre Staff Award
    4. Outstanding Centre Award
    5. Best Outreach Project Award

Winners, runners up, sponsors and stakeholders will be invited to an Awards Ceremony in London in June to help UK online centres celebrate success, and say well done and thank you to individuals, staff and centres.

Nominations open today, and the online nomination forms can be found at www.ukonlinecentres.com/Awards/index.html.  Entries close on Friday 18 April 2008.

Helen Milner, Managing Director of UK online centres, said:  “The idea of the Awards is to mark some of the outstanding achievements of visitors, support staff and centres across the UK online centres network.  In my time as Managing Director I’ve met some very special centres and people out there who don’t count what they’re doing as anything out of the ordinary.  The Awards are our chance to recognise what UK online centres do as extraordinary, to applaud success, communicate best practice, shout good news, and maybe even inspire others.

“I’m looking forward to finding, capturing and sharing some of the network’s best stories of innovation and inspiration, personal development and community support.  If you know someone who has achieved something great for themselves at a UK online centre, if you know a fantastic UK online centre project or a member of staff who goes above and beyond the call of duty, make their day, and make a nomination!”
