Our 500,000th learners: Pichit

Pichit Chuechomno, 51, from Ealing, first visited her local UK online centre, Action Acton when she was told about them by her local Jobcentre Plus Office.

Pichit, who is originally from Thailand, had been encouraged to give computers a go so she could get her CV and covering letter up to scratch so she could start applying for work.

She says: “I didn’t know where to start with my CV but visiting my local UK online centre, Action Acton, was really useful. I could use a keyboard before but couldn’t do a lot more, so I really needed some help to get going.

“I work part time as an interpreter but am looking for full time job, so it’s important that I have a CV – and that I can email it to people. I don’t know how I would go about looking for work if I couldn’t use a computer so coming to the centre has been great for me.”

“Since I’ve got my CV sorted, and learnt some of the basics,  I’ve done lots of other things too, like learning how to use Facebook, finding about more about photos and digital cameras and how to use my mobile phone. I’ve learnt such a lot more than I thought I would and have really enjoyed it. I’ve even been able to email my family in Thailand which has just been great!”

“Now I know how to do things myself, I want to go on to the next level so I can help other people get started. I enjoy talking to other people, and I think it’s really helpful to have someone else who’s been in the same situation.”

“Coming into the centre has really helped to change my life! The Action Acton staff and volunteers have been so friendly and helpful, and I never believed how far I could come. I have also finally succeeded in getting a job which I am so pleased about  - and I even applied for it online!”
