On Monday, the Age UK Internet Champions for 2012 were presented by June Whitfield, at a ceremony in London. Brenda O'Mulloy and Keith Paterson were named Joint Internet Champions for 2012, Brenda and Keith have not only got online themselves, but have also used their enthusiasm for computers and the internet to inspire others to give it a go.
Both Brenda and Keith inspired the judges, including UK online centres’ Chief Executive Helen Milner. Keith, who is from Suffolk, has set up his own website to help people get online - www.silverhairs.co.uk - where he can answer questions from people who are struggling.
Brenda, from Buckinghamshire, first got started with computers herself to connect with people after her husband died, and managed to get back in touch with a American soldier who had stayed with her family during WW2 - and has been spreading the word about the benefits of Facebook far and wide!
You can read Helen’s thoughts on the Age UK Internet Champion of the Year awards here.
Congratulations to Brenda, Keith and all of the runners up - we hope you continue to enjoy all of the benefits that being online can provide.
